Why this Gastroenterologist Recommends Flaxseed
Meet Dr. Sharma
Dr. Sharma is a gastroenterologist based in Indiana who specializes in digestive disorders including (but not limited to) IBS and reflux. He often sees patients for inflammatory bowel disease, bloating, constipation, reflux, small intestine bacterial overgrowth, and hemorrhoids.
This gastroenterologist recommends Manitoba Milling Co. Flaxseed to his patients so frequently that he began supplying it for his patients right in his office.
We recently spoke with Dr. Sharma to learn more about why he is such an advocate for Manitoba Milling Flaxseed.
Constipation, Hemorrhoids, and Flaxseed
While he sees a variety of conditions in his practice, Dr. Sharma most often prescribes flaxseed to his patients who are struggling with constipation or hemorrhoids. He says that flaxseed makes bowel movements smoother, decreases irritation, and helps people feel better.
Instead of prescribing medications, Dr. Sharma recommends Manitoba Milling Co. Smooth Whole-Milled Flaxseed, which his patients can purchase right in his office. He says his patients actually have greater relief by consuming flaxseed than when they take medications!
Depending on the patient, he typically suggests starting with 1/2-1 Tbsp per day and gradually increasing.
“I like to try whole-milled flaxseed before I even try medicines. Flaxseed is ‘clean’ and gluten-free so I prefer it over Metamucil and Benefiber.”
A team member at Dr. Sharma’s office was once feeling gassy, constipated, and bloated and had tried everything to relieve her symptoms! One day a colleague snuck some flaxseed in her coffee (she had no idea!) and she felt relieved very shortly after!
Another patient came to Dr. Sharma after trying many medications for constipation – none of which seemed to work. Flaxseed seemed to be her cure too!
He says his whole office swears by it!
